Michie Tavern Museum

Michie Tavern is recognized by Virginia Landmark for its leading role in the 1920's Preservation Movement. In continuing efforts towards preservation, this historic: attraction has worked towards saving significant rural Virginia structures. Glancing upward, you will see the circa 1822 Sowell House which creates a complimentary blend of exhibit and retail space in a gallery-like setting. It is the first of several period structures to highlight Early American trades in a setting called the Marketplace. Further along the path is the tobacco barn, which for many years functioned as a wheelwright shop. Relocated here in the early J990's, it too will be a stop along the path of Marketplace Shops, bike the other historic structures, the Tobacco Barn will offer educational exhibits, living history and retail space.
We hope you enjoy these additions and .we invite you to watch as our site progresses towards a future which recognizes, pays tribute to and preserves the past.
